Recognition of Police Reserve Dan Magnane

Report
BACKGROUND
The Santa Clara Police Department Reserve unit was formed in 1952. Originally, it was made up of residents who chose to volunteer in support of their Police Department at a difficult time during the Korean War.

Over the last 67 years, members of other communities have graduated from the California Peace Officer Standards Training Reserve Officer Module and have been selected for volunteer service with our Police Department.

The Police Reserves are an integral component of our Department and the work they perform is varied, including security of our city's parks and school grounds, safekeeping at various special events (e.g. parades, 4th of July fireworks at California's Great America, Art and Wine Festival, Halloween Haunt, etc.), participate in community programs (e.g. National Night Out), support the needs of Santa Clara University and respond to call outs for major traffic accidents, fires and/or crime scene protection.

Our current Police Reserves have chosen their own career path, such as attorneys, engineers, auto mechanics, landscapers and firefighters, and also serve as Police Reserves because they want to serve our community in a unique way. A handful are Santa Clara residents, many live in neighboring communities and one is even a Nevada resident. These ordinary citizens are "extreme volunteers" who contribute to the betterment of the Santa Clara community.
