Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Membership Voting (Hardy)
Report
BACKGROUND
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) an advisory body to the City Council on matters relative to modifying or expanding the City's recreational and commuter bikeway system. Its goal is to encourage recreational and commuter bicycling by promoting safe, convenient, well-designed facilities and by evaluating local bicycle-related projects.
BPAC has nine members and is presently chaired by Councilmember Karen Hardy with Councilmember Raj Chahal as the alternate. The BPAC represents a cross section of Santa Clara’s bicycling and pedestrian community, contributing their knowledge to the City regarding bicycle and pedestrian related issues and projects. BPAC membership is for a three-year term and members can elect to serve additional terms if approved the City Council.
The membership terms for members Rafael Rius, Diane Harrison, and Craig Larsen expire on December 31, 2019. Only member Diane Harrison has indicated that she would like to serve for another term. These three BPAC membership openings were advertised to the public via the City website, cable TV channel 15, social media, and through the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition social media so that any interested person who either works in or is a resident of Santa Clara may apply. Staff have received 5 applications (Attachments 1 through 5). Staff requests that the BPAC review the applications and vote on which applications to recommend to the City Council for approval.
