BACKGROUND

At the January 12, 2021 City Council (Council) meeting, the Council requested that updates on the Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’s (Task Force) work effort be provided to the Council on a quarterly basis.

DISCUSSION

Task Force Chair Neil Datar will provide a verbal update on the work effort from July to September 2021. Chair Datar will report on the Task Force’s listening session held in collaboration with the Bill Wilson Center, the Policing and Community Engagement/Relations Subcommittee’s collaboration with the Police Department on review of department policy changes, guest speakers who have attended recent Task Force meetings, the Community Listening Sessions Working Group’s work in planning the next Citywide community listening session and revising its current community survey (Attachment 1) in conjunction with City staff and the Santa Clara University Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, and the recent appointment of one (1) Older Adult Advisory Member and one (1) Younger Adult Advisory Member. The September 13, 2021 report to the Task Force (RTC 21-1192) that recommended the appointments to the Younger Adult and Older Adult Advisory Member vacancies, which outlines the recruitment process and includes the applications received to fill the vacancies, is included with this report as Attachment 2.

The September 13, 2021 report to the Task Force (RTC 21-1193) on the Task Force’s options to fill their current member vacancy using the Council-approved eligibility list is included with this report as Attachment 3.
