REPORT TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT
Title
Recognition of the Santa Clara Lions 12U Team

Report
BACKGROUND
The Santa Clara Lions Youth Football and Cheer Club was founded in 1960. Together with dedicated coaches, the Lions Football Program has provided the opportunity for youth in the community to play tackle football and learn the skills required to compete in the game. The Santa Clara Lions Youth Football and Cheer Club Lions 12U team for youth is called the Wildcats and includes youth ages 11-12.

The Wildcats played three undefeated teams and won each time, ultimately winning the 2023 Pacific Northwest Championship Division II Title championship game and earning a place in the 2023 Pop Warner National Championship. The team played exceptionally well during the championship. In the end, they did not win the national championship title, however, the Wildcats represented Santa Clara and brought pride to the community.

DISCUSSION
The Mayor and City Council will present certificates of recognition to the members of the Santa Clara Lions 12U Wildcats team on February 6, 2024 for winning the 2023 Pacific Northwest Championship Division II Title and for advancing to compete in the 2023 Pop Warner National Championship.
