REPORT TO TASK FORCE ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

SUBJECT

Title

Discussion and Possible Action on Next Community Listening Session and Appointment to Working Group

Report

BACKGROUND

As part of its approved workplan, the Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (Task Force) is holding a series of community listening sessions to seek the public’s input on what the City can do to build a more inclusive community. To date, the Task Force has held one (1) community listening session and the Bill Wilson Center, a Task Force community partner, has held one (1) community listening session.

In preparation for the Task Force’s next community listening session, the Community Listening Sessions Working Group (a subcommittee of the Task Force), in coordination with the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics (MCAE), identified a potential theme, as discussed below.

DISCUSSION

The Task Force will discuss the Community Listening Sessions Working Group’s proposed theme for their next listening session. Staff recommends that the Task Force provide their input on the proposed theme and delegate authority to the Community Listening Sessions Working Group to set a date and time for the next session.

With former Chair Darius Brown’s departure from the Task Force, there are now only two members on the Community Listening Sessions Working Group. Therefore, staff also recommends that the Task Force appoint a third member to the Community Listening Sessions Working Group to assist with this work effort.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

The action being considered does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environment Quality Act (“CEQA”) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15378(a) as it has no potential for resulting in either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.

FISCAL IMPACT

There was no fiscal impact associated with the preparation of this report.

COORDINATION

This report was coordinated with the City’s Attorney’s Office.
