Recognition of Santa Clara Sparks 10U and 12U Softball Teams

BACKGROUND
The Santa Clara Sparks are Santa Clara Police Activities League (PAL)-Gal Softball League’s competitive summer travel teams for 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U. The Santa Clara Sparks players are recruited from girls who play on the Santa Clara PAL-Gal Spring Recreational Season teams. The Santa Clara Sparks play competitive softball and compete in weekend tournaments.
DISCUSSION
As a Special Order of the Business, the Mayor and Council will recognize the Santa Clara Sparks 10U and 12U Softball Teams for their accomplishments during the 2018 season.
Led by Coach Todd Kleinheinz, the Santa Clara Sparks 10U Team placed in the top 8 of the 21 teams in their division. The 10U Team also took silver at the USA NorCal Association Championships and qualified for the California State Games.
The Santa Clara Sparks 12U Team players are the 2018 California State Games Softball 12U Champions. Coached by Coach Yih-Woei Saw, the Santa Clara Sparks 12U Team won their division and returned home with gold. The 12U Team also took bronze at the USA NorCal Association Championships and qualified for the California State Games.

The action being considered does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact other than staff time.
