Recognition of Dr. Eun Hee Koo for Virtual Exchange Program with the Icheon Office of Education

BACKGROUND

The City of Santa Clara has established relationships with three Sister Cities internationally which include Coimbra, Portugal; Izumo, Japan; and Limerick, Ireland. In addition, the City of Santa Clara has a Friendship City with Icheon, Republic of Korea which was renewed as a Friendship City relationship for an additional three years on July 9, 2024.

 

Dr. Eun Hee Koo is part of the Korean Language and Culture Foundation and Adroit College Korean School located in Santa Clara. Together with the Icheon Office of Education, Dr. Eun Hee Koo supported the development of a virtual exchange program in conjunction with the Director of Education, Heo Eun-sun of the Korean Language and Culture Foundation.

 

The program included participation from the Icheon Office of Education and also local students chosen from the Korean Language and Culture Foundation in Santa Clara and Adroit College located in Santa Clara. The virtual exchange program included sessions in which participants were able to share their stories and lessons in their culture.

 

DISCUSSION

The City of Santa Clara is recognizing Dr. Eun Hee Koo for her efforts in developing a virtual exchange program with the Icheon Office of Education.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") is required.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.

Public contact was made by posting the Council agenda on the City’s official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers.
