BACKGROUND

The Association of Indo Americans is a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining cultural heritage of the Indian American community in the region. The mission of the association is to foster and promote cultural and social interactions among members, facilitate cultural events and educational programs about the Indian subcontinent, celebrate the cultural heritage of the Indian subcontinent, and share this rich culture in the community. It provides a forum for over 48 like-minded organizations to carry out this mission. In addition, the Association of Indo Americans provides support services to members of the Indian American community in the U.S.

 

The Association of Indo Americans organizes community gatherings throughout the year in an effort to foster unity and diversity. Major festivals include India's Republic Day, Holi - Festival of Colors, Maya Bazaar - Summer Festival, India's Independence Day, and Diwali.

 

DISCUSSION

At the January 30, 2024 City Council meeting, the City Council will present a Commendation to the Association of Indo Americans for its work benefitting the community.

This is an informative report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") is required.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.
