REPORT TO COUNCIL

SUBJECT

Title

Joint Dinner Meeting with City Council and the Cultural Commission

Report

BACKGROUND

On July 19, 2016, the City Council approved publicly noticed joint dinner meetings in an effort to increase communication between City Council and City boards, committees, and commissions.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings were suspended. Consequently, this will be the first joint dinner meeting with the Cultural Commission since 2020.

DISCUSSION

As a continued commitment to enhance communication between the City Council and boards, committees, and commissions, the City Council will meet with City boards, committees, and commissions to share updates. The Cultural Commission will provide the City Council with an update on current activities and potential future projects.

The Cultural Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters pertaining to the enhancement of multi-cultural experiences and the beautification of the City through art. Additionally, the Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on programs/activities to encourage educational, cultural, sports, technical and governmental exchanges to help acquaint residents of Santa Clara with cultural diversity here and abroad.

At the March 19, 2024 City Council meeting, the Cultural Commission will provide the City Council with an update on current activities, accomplishments, and potential future projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.
