BACKGROUND
Born March 23, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to Charles & Anna Aboussleman, Joe is one of seven children.
A 20-year Retired Navy Veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, Joe’s post-naval career was as a maintenance mechanic for Lockheed and Fairchild Semiconductor. He moved to Santa Clara in 1960 where he raised three children with his wife Julie. All attended Santa Clara public schools and graduated from Adrian C. Wilcox high school.
Joe was a regular fixture at the Santa Clara Senior Center Woodshop, using the facilities to make toys for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and neighborhood children. He also made steps and other useful objects for his neighbors and for his church, St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, that he has attended since 1960.
DISCUSSION
Joseph Aboussleman is always lending a helping hand to those in need from household appliance repair, leaky faucets, wobbly chairs and bicycles. Joe has shown up and pitched in to enrich the lives of his fellow Santa Clarans for 100 years.
In honor of Joe Aboussleman’s 100th birthday this year, the City of Santa Clara commends him for his numerous ongoing contributions to the community and for continuing to exemplify what it means to be a model friend, neighbor and citizen of Santa Clara.
