Quarterly Silicon Valley Power Update
Report
BACKGROUND
At the March 27, 2018 City Council study session, Silicon Valley Power (SVP), the City’s municipal electric utility, provided an informational briefing on several SVP Initiatives, including the Strategic Planning Project, utility expansion plan & infrastructure reinvestments, and wind renewable resource procurement, as well as initial findings from a City Hall Complex Office Buildings review.
DISCUSSION
SVP operates in an evolving business environment with changing state and federal regulatory requirements, climate change, customer load growth, new technologies and transforming market forces all provide challenges and opportunities that require a clear vision and strategy to maintain a high level of reliable and cost effective service.
At the August 27, 2018 Council study session, City staff will provide an informational briefing on several SVP Initiatives:
1. Utility Update
• Financial
• Load Growth and System Capacity
• Resource Procurements
• Strategic Plan Update
• Legislative and Regulatory Update
2. Near-Term Council Decisions (Sept. - Oct.)
• Refinancing SVP 2008B Bonds
• Rate Restructuring
3. Mid-Term Council Decisions (Nov. - Dec.)
• Rate Adjustments
• Approval of SVP Strategic Plan
• Provide direction on financing of Utilities Administration Building

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required at this time.
