Report

COUNCIL PILLAR

Enhance Community Engagement and Transparency

BACKGROUND

The City of Santa Clara Youth Commission was established in 1995 to act in an advisory capacity to City Council to provide relevant insight regarding youth and teen issues in the community. Since its inception, the 15-member Youth Commission has provided a youth perspective and voice, opportunities for civic engagement, service, leadership training, peer support, and recommendations for new City facilities/programs that support an active and healthy youth population.

Council Policy 003 - Guidelines for Recognition of Volunteers, Community Leaders and Outstanding Citizens, includes the recognition of Commissioners who have served on a City Commission. Past City practice has been to recognize outgoing Commissioners for their years of service at a Council meeting (Attachment 1).
