Recognition of the Wilcox High School Robotics Team

BACKGROUND
The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) is a robotics competition for upper middle and high-school students, working in teams of up to 15 members. It offers the traditional challenge of a FIRST Robotics Competition with the goal to reach young people with a lower-cost, more accessible opportunity to discover the excitement and rewards of science, technology, and engineering.
The Wilcox High School Robotics Team #8872, known as Robopocalypse, won two of the most prestigious awards at the Stratford Preparatory School FIRST Tech Challenge qualifier event on January 22, 2023. The team won all five matches with the best robot performance and entered the playoff rounds, which they won the finals round. The Wilcox High School Robopocalypse received a trophy for best overall team which included judging criteria based on teamwork, robot design and engineering journal.
The Wilcox High School Robotics Team #887 includes 13 students:Alexander Cameron, Yotam Dubiner, Jason Fischer, Melvin Huynh, Minseong Kang, Andrew Kay, Navneeth Krishna, Aubrianna Lee, Melvin Mathew, Saisumant Munagala, Yuxin Qin, Ayanuddin Syed and Brian Wang.
DISCUSSION
At the February 7, 2023 City Council meeting, the City Council recognize the Wilcox High School Robotics Team #8872 Roboocalypse for their recent awards.

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.
