BACKGROUND
Santa Clara High School is a comprehensive, co-educational, public high school located in Santa Clara, California and is one of five high schools in the Santa Clara Unified School District.
Santa Clara High School Bruin Music, under the direction of Johnny Erdman, offers a vibrant and comprehensive music program for students of all skill levels. The program boasts five curricular ensembles, providing a strong foundation in instrumental and vocal performance: two concert choirs, two symphonic bands, and a string orchestra. Beyond the classroom, students can further explore their musical passions through a diverse range of extracurricular activities, including a dynamic marching band, a captivating winterguard, and various chamber ensembles such as mariachi, clarinet choir, saxophone ensemble, strolling strings, and more.
The Santa Clara High School Bruin Marching Band is a competitive marching band that recently concluded its 2025 season with a 2nd-place finish at the Western Band Association (WBA) Regional Championships. The band's competitive 2025 season featured the show "Strike! A Call to Action" and included a 1st place win at the Gilroy Garlic City Classic.
DISCUSSION
On October 11, 2025, the Santa Clara High School Bruin Marching Band was awarded 1st place at the Gilroy Garlic Classic band competition held at Gilroy High School. In addition to receiving first place, they also won the awards for Best Music, Best Effect, Best Colorguard, and Best Percussion.
The City of Santa Clara commends the Santa Clara High School Bruin Marching Band in honor of their 1st Place win at the Gilroy Garlic Classic Band Competition.
