REPORT TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT
Title
Recognition of City of Santa Clara Employee Lindsay Mibach for receiving an International Award for her work supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics
Report
BACKGROUND
Lindsay Mibach has been working for the City of Santa Clara - City Clerk’s Office since 2002. She performs many different administrative tasks and has been a great asset to the team.
Lindsay Micbach has also been a Special Olympics Athlete for 27 years. For 20 years, Lindsay has been supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics fundraising efforts, both locally and on a state level. The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Northern California raises over $1,000,000 annually for the athletes of Special Olympics.
The LETR International Executive Council Athlete Award was created to recognize outstanding Special Olympics Athletes who have contributed to the success of the Law Enforcement Torch Run on a local, state or national level. The LETR International Executive Council Athlete Award nominee is someone who contributes to the Torch Run and Special Olympics in spirit, dedication and enthusiasm, in an effective fashion.
DISCUSSION
Lindsay leads by example through her various public speaking engagements. Her enthusiasm for the Torch Run and related LETR events is infectious and spreads to her teammates on the field and throughout our local law enforcement agencies. During her speeches she always shares how proud she is to be a City of Santa Clara employee. Lindsay makes an impact on every officer that she meets - and is not afraid to follow-up and be persistent about getting them involved. Lindsay also recruits other athletes to attend LETR events in the area and thanks to her the number of athletes attending has doubled. Her positive energy, passion and love for the cause always shines through and leaves an impact on everyone around her.
Lindsay has served as co-emcee at the annual LETR Northern California Kick-off Conference, working alongside the Torch Run State Director, Assistant Chief of Police Dan Winter. She is able to quickly switch gears and address the audience as the guest speaker about the impact that law enforcement makes on athletes and the friendships that endure. Lindsay and Dan are quite the dynamic duo and are often paired together for speaking engagements, Torch Runs, and special events. Thanks to Lindsay and members of the police department, the Santa Clara Police Department is frequently the largest law enforcement agency fundraiser for Special Olympics in Northern California.
Lindsay received the “International Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Executive Committee Athlete Award” on November 9, 2018 in front of approximately 1,000 law enforcement officers from around the world at the annual International LETR conference.
