REPORT TO BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE

SUBJECT

Title

Joint Dinner Meeting with City Council and Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (Liw)

Report

BACKGROUND

To enhance communication between the City Council and the City’s boards, committees, and commissions, the City Council is scheduling joint dinner meetings with City boards, committees and commissions to occur this Fall 2026. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is tentatively scheduled to meet with the City Council on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. At the meeting, the BPAC Chair and Vice Chair have been requested to present and discuss the BPAC’s accomplishments for FY 2025-26.

This item was first discussed at the June 29, 2026 BPAC meeting. At that meeting, the following accomplishments were suggested by several BPAC members:

BPAC’s active participation in the Santa Clara Vision Zero Working Group

Formation of a BPAC Wayfinding Subcommittee

Formation of a BPAC Data Collection Subcommittee

The City’s Safe Routes to School Program

BPAC’s review of proposed bicycle improvements as a part of the City’s Annual Pavement Rehabilitation Project

Completion of the Lafayette Street Class IV Bikeway Project

BPAC’s Support for FY 2025-26 Grant Applications

Bike to Work Day and Bike to Wherever Day Events

BPAC’s active participation in the Santa Clara Station Area Specific Plan process

DISCUSSION

To prepare for the upcoming September 22, 2026 Joint Meeting of the City Council and BPAC, this agenda item will provide an additional opportunity for BPAC members to discuss the list of achievements for FY 2025-26.

To ensure that all BPAC members have an opportunity to provide feedback, staff recommends the following procedure for this agenda item:

BPAC to review the June 29, 2026 list of suggested accomplishments (listed above).

Each BPAC member can provide one to two additional FY 2025-26 accomplishments to highlight during the joint dinner.

BPAC to discuss the suggested accomplishments.

BPAC to finalize the list of FY 2025-26 accomplishments
