BACKGROUND
In 2017, the Senior Advisory Commission completed a Senior Needs Assessment (Assessment), to evaluate how well the City was meeting the domain criteria of an Age- Friendly City. In 2023, the Commission expressed interest in updating the Assessment, and at the October 23, 2023 meeting, the Commission decided to work on the Assessment update as a FY 2023/24 Work Plan objective.
At the end of FY 2023/24 Fiscal Year, encouraged by the progress they had made in updating the survey tool, the Commission decided to continue to work towards completing the Assessment. At the September 23, 2024 meeting, the Commission reviewed and approved the Senior Needs Assessment Survey Tool (Attachment 1). This tool will be used to obtain feedback from the Community on several indicators related to age-friendly healthy living in the City of Santa Clara. The tool follows the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age Friendly Cities and Communities framework.
At the September 23, 2024 meeting, the Commission continued the discussion on the outreach process and how the assessment tool could be disseminated throughout the community.
DISCUSSION
At the October 21, 2024 meeting, the Commission will continue to discuss and develop the community engagement and outreach plan that will guide the process for the Assessment (Attachment 2). Some of the discussion topics for the engagement and outreach plan include initiating a variety of focus groups in multiple languages, hosting pop-up meetings to gain feedback from the community, and circulating the survey through an online platform.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
