SUBJECT

Title

Joint Meeting with City Council and Board of Library Trustees

Report

BACKGROUND

On July 19, 2016, the City Council approved publicly noticed joint dinner meetings in an effort to increase communication between City Council and City boards, committees, and commissions.

DISCUSSION

As a continued commitment to enhance communication between the City Council and boards, committees, and commissions. The City Council will meet with City boards, committees and commissions on an annual basis to share updates.

The Board of Library Trustees is primarily responsible for the establishment, acceptance and continued supervision of the Santa Clara City public library program. The Board develops and enforces bylaws, rules and regulations for the administration of the public library; approves or disapproves the appointment of the City Librarian; accepts donations into the library fund (subject to the approval of the City Council); and contracts with other governmental agencies to render or receive library services (also subject to the approval of the City Council). The five-member Board is comprised of volunteers who are appointed by the City Council.

At the February 20, 2024 meeting, the Board of Library Trustees will provide the City Council with an update on current activities and potential future projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.

PUBLIC CONTACT

Public contact was made by posting the Council agenda on the City’s official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers. A complete agenda packet is available on the City’s website and in the City Clerk’s Office at least 72 hours prior to a Regular Meeting and 24 hours prior to a Special Meeting. A hard copy of any agenda report may be requested by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at (408) 615-2220, email clerk@santaclaraca.gov or at the public information desk at any City of Santa Clara public library.
