BACKGROUND
In accordance with Council Policy 051, Donations to the City, the City Manager's Office reviewed and approved the receipt of donations of hand sanitizer and personal protective equipment (PPE) in support of the City's COVID-19 emergency response during the COVID-19 emergency. The donations are consistent with the City's goals and objectives and in the best interest of the City.

Per the Council Policy, for a donation of $1,000 or more, the donor shall be invited to a Council Meeting to be recognized under Special Order of Business and receive a letter of acceptance and appreciation signed by the Mayor and City Manager.

DISCUSSION
The generous donations of PPE and hand sanitizer from local organizations, including Intel, Google, O2 Micro, and Silicon Valley Christian Assembly, have been invaluable resources in providing citizens and City employees with essential resources during the COVID-19 emergency. The donations included PPE such as face masks, goggles and protective jumpsuits as well as hand sanitizer. These donations benefited essential City workers who required additional protection to perform their job duties during the pandemic, as well as City staff deployed as Disaster Service Workers working at food distribution centers throughout the City.

The generosity of our local organizations also made it possible for the City to make face masks[ML1] available to the citizens of Santa Clara during various outreach events hosted by the Mayor and Councilmembers. In addition, Emergency Operations Center staff performed outreach to Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, skilled nursing facilities, and community care facilities to assess their PPE needs early in the pandemic when resources were scarce.
