BACKGROUND
On February 22, 2022, following a Request for Proposals process, the City Council approved RTC# 22-1758 which authorized the City Manager to issue purchase orders to Tucker Construction, Inc. (Tucker) to support the Facilities Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW) for citywide as-needed repair services. The initial term of the purchase orders authorization was for one year with a maximum compensation not to exceed $115,000, and with four additional one-year option periods. DPW exercised Option 1, which is effective from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. Three additional option periods remain, which would extend the term through June 30, 2028, if exercised.
The services under the purchase orders include a wide variety of interior and exterior repairs such as general carpentry, installation and repair of windows and doors, flooring repairs and replacement, fencing repairs, interior and exterior painting, drywall repair, and other related maintenance tasks. The City of Santa Clara's Electric Utility, Silicon Valley Power (SVP), now seeks to utilize Tucker to provide similar as-needed repair services at SVP facilities.
DISCUSSION
SVP has identified ongoing maintenance and repair needs at its facilities that exceed the previously authorized amount under the 2022 City Council approval for DPW. The repairs required by SVP typically are for repair of fencing needed to maintain secure facilities.
To address these requirements, SVP staff requests authorization to issue additional purchase orders to Tucker for up to $600,000. This amount is intended to cover repairs through June 30, 2028, consistent with the term authorized by the Department of Public Works. T...
