Informational Report - Role of Community Grants in Library Services and Programs

BACKGROUND
On June 2, 2025, the Board of Library Trustees held a joint public meeting with the Board of the Santa Clara City Library Foundation ("SCCLFF Board") where both Boards agreed to hold regular joint meetings with the goal of furthering communications and cooperation in support of the Library. The meetings were planned to be every 6 months.
At the same meeting The Board of Library Trustees took action to identify areas of library operations in which the Board hopes to become better informed. That action was intended to support board development, and to help Trustees better advocate for the Library in the community and support fundraising initiatives.
DISCUSSION
An informational report on Library Grants will be presented to the Board of Library Trustees and the SCCLFF Board during the joint meeting portion of the December 1, 2025 meeting. Prepared by the Library's Youth Services and Read Santa Clara staff, this informational report provides an overview of the important role grants play in funding Library programs and services for the community. Staff will share outcomes of recent grant funded Library efforts, to better inform the Board of Library Trustees and the SCCLFF Board of their impact.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact.
