REPORT TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT
Title
Recognize Local Students for Community Wellness Initiative “Active Circle”
Report
BACKGROUND
In March 2020, the State of California and the City of Santa Clara declared states of emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been well documented that the pandemic and stay-at-home orders have had detrimental impacts on the health and wellness of the community, and particularly on our youth.
In response, three City of Santa Clara students started an initiative, Active Circle, to connect people and promote wellness through exercise and healthy habits. On March 20, 2021, in partnership with the South Asian Heart Society at El Camino Hospital, these students hosted a virtual event, “Exercise is Medicine,” which was attended by Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor and Vice Mayor Raj Chahal.
DISCUSSION
As a Special Order of Business on May 4, 2021, the Santa Clara City Council will recognize these exceptional students with a Certificate of Special Mayoral Recognition, which will be accepted by the students and their families.

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council; no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.
