Action on Appointment of a Primary Member and an Alternate Member to the Stevens Creek Corridor Steering Committee

BACKGROUND
In 2019, the cities of Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jos?, and Santa Clara County adopted resolutions in support of a vision study of the Stevens Creek corridor, formalizing interest in creating a common vision for high-capacity transit along the Stevens Creek Corridor that will improve mobility and its interrelationship with walking, biking, placemaking, and enhancing the quality of life for all community members in a seamless manner. In 2020, a Stevens Creek Corridor Steering Committee (also known as the Stevens Creek Boulevard Vision Study Steering Committee) was informally established and was comprised of elected officials from participating jurisdictions (Cupertino, Santa Clara, San Jose, Santa Clara County, and Valley Transportation Authority) to provide a forum to discuss and provide direction on a common vision for the Stevens Creek Corridor. Since 2021, the elected officials from Santa Clara invited to participate in the Stevens Creek Corridor Steering Committee (Steering Committee) included Mayor Lisa Gillmor and Councilmember Anthony Becker.
DISCUSSION
At the January 31, 2023 City Council meeting, the Council formally approved Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor and Councilmember Anthony Becker both as the two Santa Clara elected official members of the Steering Committee as part of the City's appointment of members to Outside Agency Committees for the 2023 Calendar Year.
At the June 23, 2023 Steering Committee meeting, the Steering Committee reviewed draft Steering Committee bylaws in an effort to formalize the organizational make up and operation of the Steering Committee.
