Proclaim October 2022 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month

BACKGROUND
The month of October has been observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 1985. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is celebrated throughout the month of October to increase awareness of the disease, raise funds for research into the causes of breast cancer, promote prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure, as well as to educate people about the importance of early screening and detection of breast cancer. For 2022, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. encourages all to rise to ensure every woman has access to the screenings she needs and the support she deserves.
DISCUSSION
At the October 4, 2022 City Council meeting, the City of Santa Clara will proclaim October 2022 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month to support and bring awareness about the impact of breast cancer.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council and no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.

This report has been coordinated with the City Manager’s Office and the Mayor and Council Office.
