REPORT TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT
Title
Recognition of Wilcox High School Team earning First Place at the California Council on Economic Education's Financial Advisors Contest

Report
BACKGROUND
The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) works with California teachers to create financially literate students who thrive in the global economy. CCEE was founded as part of the California State University Foundation to provide training and standards-based curriculum in economics to California teachers as a statewide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

The CCEE hosts the Financial Advisors Contest each year as an opportunity for high school students (Grades 9-12) to apply financial concepts in a real-world scenario. Each team receives a fictional client case-study. Student teams share their financial plan and recommendations for their client in a live presentation before a panel of judges. A total of 24 teams were selected to go to the State finals which are split into three divisions of eight teams. Each division has their own set of financial advisors which score each team in their own division.

The Wilcox High School team included 11th grade students Vedant Garg, Jiean Liao, Tanya Sharma and Michelle Wu. As current Juniors, this team also won this competition when they were Sophomores, making them only the second team that has ever won back-to-back championships. Next year, the team has the goal to be the first team ever to win three championship titles in a row.

DISCUSSION
At the City Council meeting on February 25, 2025, the City of Santa Clara will recognize the Wilcox High School students including Vedant Garg, Jiean Liao, Tanya Sharma and Michelle Wu for winning first place at the California Council on Economic Education's Financial Advisors Contest.
