BACKGROUND
Kimberly Vernon of Santa Clara, was crowned Miss California 2024 at the Miss California Centennial Celebration on June 15, 2024. Previously, she had been crowned Miss Santa Clara 2023, Miss Yosemite Valley 2022, and Miss Santa Clara County 2020, 2021, and 2024. As Miss California 2024, Kimberly will be advancing to the Miss America pageant.

She is committed to the power of arts education, and her community service initiative, "Arts for All" advocates for accessible arts education. Kimberly also served as the Head Coach of the Color Guard Team at Santa Clara High School from 2018 to 2024. In the past few years, as Miss Santa Clara, Kimberly has been a part of the Santa Clara community. Through her social media campaign, Kimberly visited local Santa Clara businesses to bring awareness to all Santa Clara has to offer. She has participated in many City of Santa Clara events including the City's Pride Flag Raising Ceremony, 4th of July All City Picnic, Concerts in the Park, Arbor and Earth Day, and the Holiday Tree Lighting. In addition, she also participated in events such as the Santa Clara Parade of Champions and the Santa Clara Schools Foundation in support of the community.

DISCUSSION
At the August 20, 2024 City Council meeting, the Mayor and City Council will recognize Kimberly Vernon for earning her recent Miss California 2024 title and her ongoing commitment and advocacy for the Santa Clara community.
