Report

BACKGROUND
The Santa Clara Lions Youth Football and Cheer Club was founded in 1960. Together with dedicated coaches, the Lions Football Program has provided the opportunity for youth in the community to play tackle football and learn the skills required to compete in the game. The Santa Clara Lions Youth Football and Cheer Club Lions 11U team for 11-year-old youth is called the Wildcats.

The Wildcats earned their spot in the playoffs after winning the Pacific Northwest Region championship game in triple over-time. This was the first time the league offered a national championship game for 11-year-olds. With a winning record of 9 and 2, the Santa Clara Wildcats 11U team went to Orlando, Florida to compete for the 2022 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championship on Dec. 3-10, 2022. The Santa Clara Lions 11U team represented Santa Clara and played exceptionally well but did not win the National Championship.

DISCUSSION
The City Council will present certificates of recognition to the members of the Santa Clara Lions 11U team on January 10, 2022 for winning the Pacific Northwest Championship Division 1 Title and for advancing to the Pop Warner National Championship.
