REPORT TO COUNCIL
SUBJECT
Title
Proclamation of Women’s History Month
Report
BACKGROUND
In 1987, the United States Congress designated the month of March as Women’s History Month for the first time.
DISCUSSION
Women’s History Month is an annual celebration that honors and recognizes the extraordinary achievements of American women. Women’s History Month commemorates the vital role and contributions of women in our nation’s history, as well as recognizing that American women have fought diligently for equal opportunity and to secure their own rights of suffrage. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Mayor has signed a City Proclamation, proclaiming the month of March, 2018, as Women’s History Month in the City of Santa Clara.
