BACKGROUND
At the January 23, 2018 Council meeting, Council declared a vacancy on the Civil Service Commission for a partial term ending June 30, 2018 and scheduled the interviews and appointment for February 20, 2018; however, at the February 20, 2018 Council meeting, Council continued the interviews and appointment due to the expected number of applicants and the need for ample time to conduct interviews.

DISCUSSION
Past City practice has been to conduct Civil Service Commission interviews during a Council meeting. The Mayor and Council Office were polled and a March 22, 2018 interview date established. Interviews were scheduled by notifying the applicants via phone and email.

The Office of the City Clerk received nine (9) applications by the February 13, 2018 administrative deadline and since that time, one (1) applicant has rescinding his application.

The following individuals are scheduled for interviews:

Franklin John Felizardo
Pauline Hill
Trang Ngan Le
Ashish Mangla
Teresa Sulcer
Alex Veksler
Kimberly Wallace

Following interviews, staff recommends that the Council appoint one applicant to fill the vacancy on the Civil Service Commission to serve a partial term ending June 30, 2018.

Public contact was made by posting the Council agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers. A complete agenda packet is available on the City's website and in the City Clerk's Office at least 72 hours prior to a Regular Meeting and 24 hours prior to a Special Meeting.
