BACKGROUND
In 1969, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IMCC) initiated Municipal Clerks Week to recognize the critical role of municipal clerks and to acknowledge the services they provide to their cities and communities. IMCC is a professional, nonprofit association that promotes continuing education and certification. It is the leading professional association serving the needs of municipalities through promoting municipal research administration, enhancing critical professional skill development and fostering a spirit of mutual assistance and good fellowship among municipal clerks around the globe.

Municipal Clerks Week was recognized by the United States Government in 1984 and 1994, when Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, respectively, signed a proclamation officially declaring Municipal Clerks week on the first full week of May and recognizing the essential role that Municipal Clerks have in local government.

Municipal Clerks Week is celebrated during the first full week of May with a series of activities to increase the public's awareness of Municipal Clerks and the vital services that they provide for local government and the community. In honor of Municipal Clerks Week, the Mayor has signed a City Proclamation, proclaiming the week of May 6-12, 2018, as Municipal Clerks Week in the City of Santa Clara.
