SUBJECT
Title
Action on a Contribution Agreement with Santa Clara Unified School District to Support the Extended Day Care/Latchkey Program

Report
BACKGROUND
Since 1997, the City of Santa Clara has provided financial support to the Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) for an Extended Day Care/Latchkey (before and after school) enrichment program for kindergarten through 5th grade students of low income families at various SCUSD elementary schools. These schools have included Bracher, Hughes, Montague, Pomeroy, Westwood, Callejon, and Haman Elementary Schools.

DISCUSSION
This agreement and funding further supports the community's access to recreational and academic enrichment. As part of the adoption of the FY 2018-19 Operating Budget the Council approved $108,450 in funding for the Santa Clara Unified School District's Extended Day Care/Latchkey Program. Specifically, this program serves older children (Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) in before and after school child care at Family Child Education Services Extended Day/Latchkey programs at Bracher, Hughes, Montague, Pomeroy, Westwood, Don Callejon, Sutter, Central Park, and Haman Schools during the 2018-2019 school year.

One condition of the funding is for the school district to provide a brief written narrative summary of both qualitative and quantitative activities of the before and after school programs for each quarter of the Agreement, such as descriptions of activities and numbers of participants in the program at each site. The quarters are divided up in to the following time periods: July - September 2018; October-December 2018, January- March 2019; April -June 2019.
