Report

BACKGROUND

A Consolidated Special Municipal Election was held on November 6, 2018 with the Statewide General Election. California Elections Code Section 9269 and 10262 require that the City Council adopt a resolution reciting the facts of the election no later than the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting following presentation of the 28-day canvass of returns. The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters canvassed the returns of the election and presented the certified results to the City on December 6, 2018.

It should be noted that Raj Chahal submitted his resignation from the Planning Commission to the City via email on December 5, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

 

DISCUSSION

Consistent with the California Elections Code staff brings forward this report and has prepared a resolution for adoption. Attached is the official canvass of the returns of said election as conducted by the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters in accordance with the appropriate provisions of the California Elections Code. The results of said election is as follows:

RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution reciting the facts of the Consolidated Special Municipal Election held on November 6, 2018 with the Statewide General Election and declare the following candidates elected: Lisa M. Gillmor for Mayor for a full term of four years ending 2022; Raj Chahal for Councilmember for District 2 for a full term of four years ending 2022; Karen A. Hardy for Councilmember for District 3 for a full term of four years ending 2022; and Hosam Haggag for City Clerk for a partial term ending 2020.
