BACKGROUND
The annual Synopsys Championship showcases students in the Santa Clara County of California who will become our future scientists, technology experts, engineers, and mathematicians. This regional competition celebrates achievement by middle and high school students supported by their parents, teachers, and schools.
Through the annual Fair competition, hundreds of Santa Clara County students are challenged to go beyond their classroom studies to do independent project-based research. They work independently, or in teams, to address questions in the fields of Computer Science, Environmental Science, Medicine & Health, Chemistry, Biology, and a half dozen other categories.
DISCUSSION
The City of Santa Clara is honored to recognize the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) achievements of sixteen Santa Clara students for their participation in the Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair Association's (SCVSEFA) 2018 Synopsis Championship Science Fair.

The City Council is proud to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of these sixteen students for their outstanding accomplishments: Yusra Arub, Swathi Badrinarayanan, Aditya Behal, Nishita Belur, Rohan Chopra, Laasya Chukka, Jason Co, Parth Hathalia, Sama Karim, Aisha Kazi, Pareekshith Krishna, Jeena Mahajan, Ankith Maremanda, Sohan Nannra, Surya Tallavarjula, and Akash Vig.

At the City Council meeting Dr. Katy Korsmeyer, Treasurer of the Board of Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair Association (SCVSEFA) and Associate Director of Special Projects, College of Arts and Sciences at Santa Clara University, will introduce the students who participated in the competitions.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no cost to the City other than staff time.
