REPORT TO SALARY SETTING COMMISSION

SUBJECT

Title

Action To Set Future Commission Meeting Dates

Report

BACKGROUND

Charter Section 702 requires the Salary Setting Commission (Commission) to set the compensation of the Mayor and Council prior to March 15, 2019 and thereafter, every two years. The Charter provision also provides that salaries so established by the Commission shall not exceed one hundred ten percent (110%) of the previous figure.

DISCUSSION

The Commission will meet as often as necessary to conduct its business and set compensation rates prior to the dates designated in the City Charter and City Code.

Given the Charter deadline of March 15, 2019 for setting of Mayor and Council salaries, and the availability of the Council Chamber, staff identified possible dates listed below with meetings set at 7:00 pm in the Council Chamber:

                     January 17, 22, 27, 30

                     February 4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 20, 21, 25, 26, 28

                     March 4, 14

COORDINATION

This report has been coordinated with the City Attorney’s Office and the City Clerk’s Office.

PUBLIC CONTACT

Public contact was made by posting the Commission agenda on the City’s official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers. A complete agenda packet is available on the City’s website and in the City Clerk’s Office at least 72 hours prior to a Regular Meeting and 24 hours prior to a Special Meeting. A hard copy of any agenda report may be requested by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at (408) 615-2220, email clerk@santaclaraca.gov <mailto:clerk@santaclaraca.gov> or at the public information desk at any City of Santa Clara public library.
