Recognition of Adrian Wilcox High School Varsity Football Team for Winning State Championship

Report

BACKGROUND

The Adrian Wilcox High School Varsity Football Team went undefeated during the 2018 regular season and finished with a 10-0 record. After their perfect season, the Wilcox Chargers qualified as the top seed for the 2018 Central Coast Section (CCS) Open Division I Football Championship playoffs. After defeating Piedmont Hills High School and Salinas High School in the first two rounds of CCS playoffs, the Wilcox Chargers went on to play the Menlo-Atherton Bears in the CCS Open Division I Football Championship game. The Wilcox Chargers fell short of winning the CCS Open Division I Championship title after their 33-28 loss to the Menlo-Atherton Bears. As the CCS Open Division I runner-up, the Wilcox Chargers qualified for the Division 3A NorCal Regional Championship.

On December 8, 2018, the Adrian Wilcox High School Varsity Football Team competed against the Capital Christian High School Varsity Football Team for the Division 3A NorCal Regional Championship. After the Wilcox Chargers defeated the Capital Christian Cougars with a final score of 34-30 to win the 2018 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 3-A NorCal Regional Championship, the team went on to compete in the school's first state final.

On December 15, 2018, the Adrian Wilcox High School Varsity Football Team (14-1) played against the Kaiser High School Varsity Football Team (13-1) for the 2018 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 3-A State Championship. The Wilcox Chargers beat the Kaiser Cats in the State championship game with a final score of 41-27, and claimed the school’s first ever state title.
