Report
BACKGROUND
Annually, the Cultural Commission (Commission) receives and reviews requests for City of Santa Clara grant funding from Santa Clara based cultural arts organizations. Grant requests are evaluated based on the following criteria: community contribution; reflection of community diversity; artistic level; internal capacity and fiscal management; and, public profile. On November 7, 2018, City staff released the FY2019-20 Cultural Arts Funding Application. City staff received five (5) grant applications by the deadline of December 14, 2018.

The following Santa Clara based cultural arts organizations have submitted a FY 2019-20 Cultural Arts Grant Application (See Attachments 1-5) to the Cultural Commission for review:
* Art Forum;
* Santa Clara Ballet Association;
* Santa Clara Chorale;
* Santa Clara Parade of Champions; and,
* The Santa Clara Players.

On January 7, 2019, the community based cultural arts organizations had the opportunity to present and answer questions from the Commission. The Santa Clara Ballet Association, Santa Clara Players, and the Santa Clara Parade of Champions made a presentation to the Commission. By consensus, the Commission deferred making recommendations on Cultural Arts Grants to the February 4, 2019 Commission meeting.

DISCUSSION
In FY2018-19, the following cultural arts organizations received City grant funds: Santa Clara Ballet ($10,000); Santa Clara Chorale ($5,000); and, Santa Clara Players ($5,850). The Commission has been allocated $20,850 by the City Council for FY2019-20 to recommend for distribution among Santa Clara based cultural arts organizations.
