Youth Commission Committee Report on Work Plan Goal-Public Outreach

BACKGROUND
The Youth Commission chose "Public Outreach" as one of their FY 2018-19 Work Plan Goals. This committee's purpose is to raise community awareness of the Youth Commission and other important topics including, but not limited to: youth in government, the environment, and cultural awareness.
DISCUSSION
Committee members will provide an update on their objectives to meeting attendees. By the February 12, 2019 Youth Commission meeting, committee members are anticipated to have completed their first topic on urban agriculture. Members visited Everett N. "Eddie" Souza Park, local home improvement stores, interviewed City staff, and created a short video. The video was posted to the Youth Commission Instagram account @SantaClaraYouthCommission. The goal of the video and outreach was to encourage people to start their own garden, on a small scale, and highlighting local gardening resources. Committee members are expected to share their experience of the project, gather feedback, and introduce their next outreach topic.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.

Public contact was made by posting the Youth Commission's agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers.
