BACKGROUND
Youth Commission FY2018-19 Work Plan includes a goal to host an Inclusive Makerspace. The purpose of an Inclusive Makerspace will be to provide persons with special needs to explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities. An Inclusive Makerspace was initially held during the 2017-18 term at the Central Library in collaboration with the Library, the Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services Program, and the Youth Commission. Over 200 youth with special needs and their families attended the event.

DISCUSSION
Committee members will provide an update to meeting attendees on the 2019 event plans and logistics. The committee will discuss narrowing down the list of potential activities. Committee members have expressed a desire to continue offering an variety of activities that are accessible, while integrating new opportunities in physical activity, art, and hands-on science. Committee members have also been working with Therapeutic Recreation Services staff to determine how to best meet the needs of the targeted population (e.g. possible allergies, addressing various ability and cognitive levels).

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.

Public contact was made by posting the Youth Commission's agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers.
