Report

BACKGROUND

Stacey Heather Lee is a local, award-winning author of historical and contemporary young adult fiction, who resides in Rivermark of Santa Clara. As a fourth-generation Chinese-American growing up California, Lee graduated from UCLA and received her law degree from UC Davis School of Law. After practicing law in the Silicon Valley for several years, she pursued her childhood dream of becoming a writer. Lee has authored four novels: Under a Painted Sky, Outrun the Moon, The Secret of a Heart Note, and The Downstairs Girl.

DISCUSSION

Lee’s novel, Under a Painted Sky, received the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Crystal Kite Award in 2016. Her novel, Outrun the Moon, received the 2016-17 Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association Literature Award in Young Adult Literature and the 2017 PEN Center USA Literary Award for Young Adult Literature. Both Under a Painted Sky and Outrun the Moon are Amelia Bloomer books, which are books with significant feminist consent selected by the American Library Association’s Feminist Task Force of the Social Responsibilities Round Table. Her latest novel, The Downstairs Girl, was featured on the New York Times’ Bestsellers List.

As a Special Order of Business, the City Council will recognize Stacey Heather Lee for her books’ many accolades and will present her with a City Proclamation.
