Youth Commission Committee Report on Work Plan Goal - Environmentalism

BACKGROUND
The Youth Commission FY 2019/20 Work Plan includes a goal to increase community awareness of, and connection to, local resources and organizations that support environmental awareness and sustainability. During their last term, commissioners hosted "Run Santa Clara: A Family 5K" that encouraged healthy habits for all ages and included information booths hosted by local community-based organizations that focused on sustainability.
DISCUSSION
The Youth Commission's Environmental Committee (Committee) members will provide an update to meeting attendees on ideas to implement the Committee's goals. Committee members will report on their attendance and participation at the Students for Green High Schools conference in San Jose on Saturday, January 25. A proposed idea, to achieve the committee's goal, is to invite environmentally focused groups to the City's Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, April 11 at Central Park. Groups would host a booth where attendees could learn what local organizations are doing to improve the environment and resources that are available.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.

Public contact was made by posting the Youth Commission's agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers.
