Youth Commission Committee Report on Work Plan Goal - Environmentalism

BACKGROUND
The Youth Commission FY 2019/20 Work Plan includes a goal to increase community awareness of, and connection to, local resources and organizations that support environmental awareness and sustainability. During their last term, commissioners hosted "Run Santa Clara: A Family 5K" that encouraged healthy habits for all ages and included information booths hosted by local community-based organizations that focused on sustainability.
DISCUSSION
The Youth Commission's Environmental Committee (Committee) members will provide an update to meeting attendees on ideas to implement the Committee's goals. Committee members have begun focusing on inviting youth-based environmental clubs and organizations to the City's Egg-Stravaganza on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Central Park. Groups would host a booth where attendees could learn what local organizations are doing to improve the environment and resources that are available. Up to six groups are expected to be invited and would be a combination of school-based clubs and region-wide organizations.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.
