BACKGROUND
During various City activities, the Youth Commission raises funds that are deposited and then awarded as financial grants through the Youth Commission Community Service Scholarship Award Program (Program). Amounts vary each year depending on funds raised and the number of eligible applicants. Eligibility criteria include: City of Santa Clara residents, who are high school juniors and seniors, that have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, and have significant verifiable community service involvement. Applicants complete an application and answer supplemental questions, typically due in March, and participate in a panel interview. In the past, scoring has been based on 50 percent for application and response to questions, and 50 percent for the oral interview. Financial grant recipients are recognized at a City Council meeting in May.
DISCUSSION
The Youth Commission’s Community Service Scholarship Award Program (Committee) members will provide an update to meeting attendees on their progress of selecting interview questions, members of the interview panel, and next steps before the interview date of Saturday, March 28. Committee members will also recognize the award recipient(s) at a future City Council meeting.

The action being considered does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.

Public contact was made by posting the Youth Commission’s agenda on the City’s official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers. A complete agenda packet is available on the City’s website and in the City Clerk’s Office at least 72 hours prior to a Regular Meeting and 24 hours prior to a Special Meeting.
