BACKGROUND
The year 2020 marks the 60th annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association (APWA). Across North America, thousands of APWA members, citizens, and government agencies join together in activities, events, and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers, and employees and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and quality of life.

DISCUSSION
May 17-23, 2020 is designated as National Public Works Week. The APWA has chosen "The Rhythm of Public Works" for this year's theme. This theme encourages APWA members and their citizens to think about their communities as a symphony of essential services, working in concert to create a great place to live. Every community has a rhythm, a heartbeat that reflects its essence and tempo of life.

Various departments within the City focus on delivering high quality public works projects including Parks & Recreation, Public Works, Water and Sewer Utilities, and Silicon Valley Power. The staff in these departments keep the community's rhythm moving by providing an orchestra of infrastructure services in transportation, roadway and landscape maintenance, wastewater and stormwater treatment, water and solid waste systems, parks and recreation spaces, power, emergency management and first response, right-of-way management, and maintenance of public buildings and other facilities essential to our citizens. The City of Santa Clara provides the harmony needed for collaboration with all the stakeholders in capital projects, infrastructure solutions, and quality of life services.
