Recognize River of Life Foundation for Outstanding Service to the Community

BACKGROUND
In March 2020, the State of California and the City of Santa Clara declared states of emergency in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The California Department of Public Health reported that COVID-19 has infected over 864,000 people in California, resulting in over 16,800 fatalities (data as of October 16, 2020). It has also caused severe economic disruption worldwide.
In response, many individuals and organizations have addressed community needs by sharing their time and resources.
DISCUSSION
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The River of Life Foundation’s Food Pantry drive through service has been distributing food boxes and hot meals, supporting 8,000 families each month.
At the October 27, 2020 City Council meeting, the City Council will recognize and thank the River of Life Foundation Food Pantry for outstanding service to the community.

This is an information report only and no action is being taken by the City Council; no environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”) is required.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City other than staff time.
