BACKGROUND
Each November, organizations encourage the community to engage in Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month. Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month celebrates and recognizes the rich history, cultural diversity, and significant contributions made by Sikh Americans in the United States.
The City of Santa Clara recognizes and acknowledges the significant contributions made by Californians of Sikh heritage to our city and state, seeks to afford all residents the opportunity to better understand, recognize, and appreciate the rich history and shared principles of Sikh Americans; and further condemns all hate crimes and bias against Sikh Americans and encourages all Sikhs to practice their faith freely and fearlessly.
DISCUSSION
At the November 1, 2022 City Council meeting, the Council will proclaim November 2022 as Sikh American Awareness and Acceptance Month in honor of the Sikh American community.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact.

The report has been coordinated by the Mayor and Council Office.
