Discussion and Possible Actions on Youth Commission FY 2023/24 Work Plan & Goals
BACKGROUND
The Youth Commission develops an annual work plan for each term which is created through a discussion of current trends relating to the youth and teen population. In recent terms, Commissioners have chosen a variety of goals including:
* Community Building with Santa Clara residents
* Public Outreach and Education; and
* Youth Engagement and Empowerment in the community
DISCUSSION
At the March 12, 2024 meeting, the Youth Commissioners discussed their work plan priorities and goals for this term. The work plan's priorities include:
* Community Building with our Santa Clara residents: Community events and intergenerational activities.
* Public Outreach and Education: online resources for Santa Clara residents and volunteering opportunities.
* Youth Engagement and Empowerment in the community: teen talk podcasts, study support for high school students, and mental health challenges.
Commissioners have formed committees for each priority to develop specific plans of action. At the April 9, 2024 meeting, Committee members will provide updates on their committee activities and actions. (Attachment1).
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The action being considered does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") pursuant to CEQA Guidelines section 15378(b)(5) in that it is a governmental organizational or administrative activity that will not result in direct or indirect changes in the environment.
PUBLIC CONTACT
Public contact was made by posting the Youth Commission agenda on the City's official-notice bulletin board outside City Hall Council Chambers. A complete agenda packet is available on the City's website and in the City Clerk's Office at least 72 hours prior to a Regular Meeting and 24 hours prior to a Special Meeting.
